Kyauta Orisa, more commonly known as Ky, is a Student Legionnaire in the Legion's Continental Academy. He hails from an family of adept Mages known as the Orisas, who reside in the country of Mystic: and is accompanied by his twin sister Alheri Orisa.

Personality[]

Being a Legionnaire was my dream, and now that it's finally come true... I've realized that there's so much more hardship that goes into it than I thought. Nevertheless, so long as I have the people I love by my side I'll endure any burden to be the savior I want to be!

—Ky

  • Initially pretended to be cool, calm, and collected; but is actually very high-spirited and socially awkward.
  • Emotionally sensitive and vulnerable, as seen through him quickly getting attached to or despising people he's only known for a short time.
  • Unnecessarily goofy and melodramatic; save for times of depression or despair.
  • Confident and has a lot of pride in himself and his peers.
  • Kind, compassionate, and caring for others unless they're an egotistical noble or royal.
  • Enjoys spending his time listening to and writing music.
  • Enjoys baking sweets and desserts of all kinds.

Background[]

  • Kyauta Orisa was born February 29th, Year 999 alongside his twin sister Alheri Orisa in the country of Mystic.
  • Kyauta lived a fairly normal and middle-class life alongside his family and friends.
  • Kyauta's family was a family of musicians, martial artists, and Mages so he was raised in all of these arts.
  • Eventually, Kyauta was enrolled in the Legion's continental academy in order to become a successful Mage.

Abilities[]

As a member of the Orisa family, Kyauta specializes in using music-based magic for a variety of purposes.

Orisa Oddities[]

Due to being a Mage, Kyauta has the ability to use magical energy known as mana. He possesses average mana reserves, but due to Vibin' he is able to output a much larger amount than usual. As an Orisa, Kyauta's basic physical stat boost manifests itself in the form of a unique magical power known as Amp which boosts him to Enhanced-level. Whenever an Orisa uses their mana to enhance themselves, their body emits an exclusive musical theme that is generated by their Awakened metaphysical heart: which is the source of a Mage's power with the theme acting as a representation of their existence. Therefore, the theme cannot be changed willingly, but can change on its own over time if their personality changes enough.

When an Orisa's Amp is activated, the mana around the Orisa's body takes the form of many floating musical notes that match their eye color (indigo in Ky's case), which glows in synch with it, and the more mana they amass the louder their theme becomes. Once they become adept enough with their Awakening is, the Orisa can turn their theme song on or off at will.

Vibin'[]

Vibin' is Kyauta's unique musical ability among his family, it enables him to project a spherical and translucent indigo barrier space of mana that makes its own music around anyone or anything in order to either amplify or alter the physical properties of the thing inside. The ability first manifested when Kyauta was doing Awakening training as a child with his father Bitrus At first, he was simply using his Amp, but as the fight went on his father noticed that Kyauta had started playing a different song from his Amp. Kyauta didn't even notice this himself, as he was so immersed in the combat and determined to land a single blow that he stopped paying attention. This was when Bitrus realized that Ky had the ability to create songs specifically based on the emotions he was feeling at the time. Subsequently, the two eventually came up with the name "Vibin" for it since it fit so well.

However, in order to fully embrace the power Kyauta had to be rather overly emotional. Which lead to him being deemed "weird", "cringey", or "ridiculous" often from his peers. Not wanting to be viewed this way, Kyauta chose to act much more "cool, calm, and collected" as he got older. Instead of focusing on his emotions, he focused more on using his head and decided to use mental visualization in order to improve his Vibin'. Over time, he had become so used to doing this that he had forgotten the true nature of how Vibin' worked: believing that the key was what he could see, rather than feel. Which to a certain degree, is true, as the basic steps to mastering one's Awakening is by visualizing the Flux in the world around them and drawing it in to maximize one's capacity.

But the truth is, Vibin's real power lies in Kyauta's emotions, something Bitrus reminded him of during his match against his fellow student Nora. The reminder of this truth allowed Kyauta to get stronger during the fight by developing a new track and helped him understand that at the end of the day it is simply best to be yourself no matter how awkward you may be. Essentially, Vibin' operates off of "emotional power" that converts Kyauta's feelings into excess mana for him to use to further bolster himself. In short, Kyauta is at his strongest during extremely emotionally heavy situations.

Kyauta's Album[]

Kyauta has developed an array of songs or tracks using Vibin, and since he will only make more as time goes on, he decided to label all of them and create an official album. Each track that Kyauta creates with Vibin not only sounds different, but has different effects tied to the mood he was in when they were first created. When one of his tracks are played, his usual Amp theme is replaced with it, and he can only use one track on himself at a time: although he has learned how to quickly transition between them. The effects of all of his tracks can be used on other people or inanimate objects as well but depending on how many targets he is trying to amp and how much he is amping them the toll on his reserves can be very low or very high. It's essentially very similar to using an EQ in music production: a device for balancing the different sounds within a track.

Combatin' - Combatin' is Kyauta's first track, and he created it during a sparring session with his father. It has the power to amplify all of the physical stats commonly associated with combat. Such as striking and lifting strength, to movement and reaction speed, and even raw durability. How much he can amplify these stats varies depending on how many stats he chooses to amp at once, and to which degree he chooses to amp them. For example, he can simply pick to amplify his strength, but not his speed or durability and as a result he has more mana leftover to pump into amping his strength: making his strength substantially higher than usual. Or he could evenly distribute the mana among the three, making them all moderately higher than usual. The mood associated with it is feeling "lock, loaded, and ready to go".

Chillin' - Chillin' is Kyauta's second track, he developed it during his "trying to be cool" phase. Chillin' has the power to amplify the ability the body's ability to heal itself and endure excruciating pain. However, the capacity to which it can heal has its limits. It can heal moderate injuries, such as fractures, broken bones, and bad burns. But it cannot heal severe injuries such as missing limbs, organs, or flesh scorched to the bone. In addition, when used on objects, it can cause them to repair themselves so long as they haven't been too badly damaged. All of this however is not its main strength, as its true strength is its emotional impact. With it, Ky is able to easily subdue certain beasts and calming those in anxious or panicked states. Nevertheless, this is not an absolute, as strong enough beasts and other Awakened individuals can easily resist its emotional effects. The mood associated with it is feeling "serene and floating among the stars".

Changin' - Changin' is Kyauta's third track, he made it during his rating game match against Nora. This track is unique compared to his others, as it doesn't actually amplify the specific traits or properties on what its used on. Instead, it alters them to some degree and allows them to be used in different ways. For example, after Kyauta made it, he used it on his own mana to form it into a solid record construct he dubbed Vinyl. Vinyl acts as an extension of himself, meaning it can be remotely controlled. Since its made using Changin', Ky can alter it such as changing its flexibility, friction, sharpness, weight, and transparency. He can even use it as a medium to play his other tracks such as Combatin' and Chillin': allowing him to play two tracks at once through himself and Vinyl. If he were to use Changin' on himself or another living being, the extent to which it can be used is much lesser. The mood associated with it is feeling "when we're at our lowest point, we're open to the greatest change".

Skills[]

Capoeria[]

As a member of the Orisa family, Kyauta has been trained in the martial art known as capoeira since the age of 4. Capoeira is a martial art that emphasizes self-defence, acrobatics, dance and music in various forms. The art focuses on speed, agility, and misdirection moreso than any other element of combat as a whole. Kyauta is skilled enough in the art to be considered a professional user of it, earning him the title capoeirista.

Piano[]

As a member of the Orisa family, Kyauta has been trained as a musician since the age of 4: specifically, as a pianist. His skill as a pianist is better than of most his age due to starting so young, and his ability to come up with, memorize, and play so many songs factors directly into his combat effectiveness in the end due to how his Vibin' works. Aside from that, his general musical knowledge on other instruments and music as a whole also assists him.

Trivia[]

  • Kyauta's first name means "gift" in Hausa, which is the language of the Hausa people from Nigeria. His surname Orisa refers to the Orisha: a group of mythological deities in the Nigerian Yoruba religion. Coincidentally, there is an Overwatch hero with the same name: who also happens to be one of Wikian's favorite tank characters in the game. Orisa is also an AI from the fictional country of Numbani: a West African country located close to Nigeria in Overwatch's lore.
  • Kyauta's appearance is based on that of the character Ekko from League of Legends. More specifically, it is based on Ekko's True Damage design, which is a virtual music group featuring characters from the game. Among the various members of the group is the character Senna, who his sister Alheri's appearance is based on.
  • Kyauta's abilities are heavily inspired by the Overwatch character Lucio's powers. Amp gets its name mostly from Lucio's Amp It Up, and Vibin' works similar to Lucio's Crossfade. His abilities are also partially inspired by the Overwatch character Baptiste's powers. This is most apparent through Amp, as Amp's name is partially drawn from Baptiste's Amplification Matrix and Vibin functions similar to it as well.
  • Kyauta's amp theme song is called "Sunny Bit" from the anime Accel World, Wikian chose it because he felt the lighthearted nature of the song gave off a "goofy" feeling that fit Ky's personality. The piano is also prominent throughout the song, and Ky is a pianist, so it worked well.
  • Kyauta's Combatin' track is "Never Catch Me (Instrumental)" from Flying Lotus feat Kendrick Lamar, Chillin' is "Beyond the Stage (Instrumental)" by Substantial and Uyama Hiroto, and Changin' is "Looking Up to the Sky" off of Akame Ga Kill!'s soundtrack composed by Taku Iwasaki.
